Street Studio

The Woodlands Photography Group had a meet-up scheduled, called ‘Street Studio’. The concept is to shoot whatever comes along. This proved to be a very succesfull concept.

The most interesting group that we ran into was the group of Freestyle walkers. Wikipedia list Freestyle walking as:
The art of freestyle walking (loosely related to free running) is a means of self-expression and creative interaction with one's environment. Freestyle walkers use leaps and air moves, clever footwork, dance or any non-traditional walking movement. Today, many practitioners view it as the act of rollerblading or skateboarding without the skates or board.

I hesitated about wether or not to approach them to ask persmission to shoot them. I turned out that they were friendly and interested in photograpy.

Wikipedia

Today, a friend informed me that I made it to Wikipedia. The page describes an annual debating tournament, ‘Bonapartiaans Debat Toernooi’, in Amsterdam. In 2001, Ronald Broeke and myself formed the team from The Hague and were able to win from the home playing team. Which proved to be quite unlikely in the years that would follow.

The photo shows the finals against, if I remember correctly, the Rotterdam team. I’m the person with the blue shirt in the lower right corner (some things never change).

Interesting detail about that meeting room is that is used to be the anatomy lecture room for the hospital ‘Binnengasthuis’. When the hospital moved to a new location in 1981, the building became the downtown campus for Amsterdam University.
